The Dangerous Summer - Get ‘em while they’re hot!

By Tanner Brown • Mar 31st, 2008 • Category: Featured Artists

Its not every day that a band straight out of High School shows its face and makes an impact on the music scene as big as The Dangerous Summer. Three out of the Five members of this band are just barely out of High School, graduating in the class of 2007, and weren’t even legal adults at the time of release of their debut album If You Could Only Keep Me Alive.

Originating from Ellicott, Maryland, this band has been playing together since Middle School, although they have been through different names, members and other changes, they got back together in August of 2006, and starting writing new music and got together with Paul Leavitt (also worked with Senses fail and All Time Low) and recorded their debut album in December of 2006 while some members where still in high school.

This band has a very amazing, addicting sound with a lot of feeling behind it. Influenced by bands such as Third Eye Blind, Bright Eyes, U2, Phil Collins, Explosions in the Sky, Jimmy Eat World, and Andrew McMahon, this band has a unique sound that isn’t heard much in todays music scene.

This band shows a lot of promise and definitely have a serious future in the music industry. Go buy their CD If You Could Only Keep Me Alive now and get obsessed so you can say “I knew them back before they where big”, because its going to happen soon.

Members include:
AJ Perdomo, Cody Payne, Bryan Czap, Tyler Minsberg

The Classic Crime - Pride of Seattle

By Tanner Brown • Mar 20th, 2008 • Category: Featured Artists, Music

Since the release of their debut album, Albatross, in 2006, this Seattle band has been creating a buzz in the underground alternative music scene. The band proved themselves by selling 3,700 copies of Albatross in the first week, making it the highest selling debut album from their record company, Tooth & Nail records.Having played together since high school where they searched for a medium between their parents favorite music like Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, but playing close attention to their surroundings including the likes of Pearl Jam and Gatsby’s American Dream, The Classic Crime have developed their own style best described as a new take on old rock ‘n’ roll.

Some fans have assumed that The Classic Crime is a “Christian band” due to being signed onto Tooth & Nail Records. However, The Classic Crime does not label themselves a ‘Christian’ band. As Matt writes on TCC’s discussion board:

We believe faith is personal, and can be only held by an individual person. To entitle a group “christian” would be to assume that the group has a collective soul, or at least individual souls tied to a solid collective belief. Not everyone in our band is decidedly set in their faith, and we respect that.” Also Justin one of the members of The Classic Crime add “3 of the 5 members in the band are Christian… We get that alot being on a pseudo-christian label (tooth & nail) but, no we are not a Christian band. Our lyrics are very positive and hopeful though”

Band members include:
Matt MacDonald (vocals)
Alan Clark (bass)
Robbie “Cheeze” Negrin (guitar)
Paul “Skip” Erickson (drums)
Justin Duque (guitar)

Angels and Airwaves - The Most Underrated Band Ever

By Tanner Brown • Mar 20th, 2008 • Category: Featured Artists, Music

Angels and Airwaves

Ever since their release of their first single The Adventure in May 2006, Angels & Airwaves have taken the hearts of millions of people around the world. Without a doubt Angels and Airwaves is one of the most, if not the most influential band of all time. With amazingly deep and inspirational lyrics, matched with an ambient yet upbeat sound, their music gives its listener a feeling that will inspire and uplift them.

Surprisingly Angels and Airwaves has become much more famous outside the United States in areas such as Europe and Australia than within the United States, although anybody who has experienced the sound of Angels and Airwaves and actually listened attentively to the music and lyrics will without a doubt say that they are one of the greatest bands of all time.
Angels and Airwaves is often thought of as a spin-off of famous band Blink-182 because it was formed by lead singer/guitarist Tom Delonge after the breakup of Blink-182 in 2005

Band members include:

Tom DeLonge — Vocals, Rhythm Guitar (2005 – present)
David Kennedy — Lead Guitar, Electronic Drum, Keyboards (2005 – present)
Matt Wachter — Bass, Backing Vocals, Keyboards (2007 – present)
Adam Willard — Drums (2005 – present)

Immortal Technique - Start the Revolution

Immortal Technique

Born in Peru and raised in Harlem, this MC later spent time at Penn State, in a state pen and is ready to give corporate America a run for its money. This underground rapper is the real deal, spitting flow about an uprise, this rapper in a genius at throwing together stories and metaphors that inspire change in such a way that other rappers can only attempt to do.

Immortal Technique is a genius at street intellect and worldly politics and is using his music to change the system. He understands the system so well and knows how to challenge it and therefore refuses to play by the rules. Since releasing his debut album “Revolutionary Vol. 1“, he refuses to sign to a major record label and has no plans to do so, although he has received many big offers, it is apparent that to Immortal Technique(who’s real name remains anonymous by request of the artist) it isn’t about selling out, its about remaining in control of his music and therefore his message so that nobody can put a sensor it. He has since released his second album “Revolutionary Vol. 2” in 2003 with Viper Records, which he is the president of.

Immortal Technique has announced that he is working on a new album, although not much information has been released about it. “There is definitely something different about this album,” he said. “My flow is improved. I am not a 19-year-old-kid no more, screaming into the microphone. My voice changed. I am older. I am wiser.”

The hip-hop movement gives a voice to a group of people who may not otherwise have an opportunity to be revolutionary, people that have long been silenced by the system. However this doesn’t mean Technique can’t appreciate a good club mix.

“You’ve got to understand something: Hip-hop was invented by people who were going through some of the worst economic years in recent history in terms of urban environment. These people didn’t just make protest music, or music about struggle. At the end of the day they wanted to go home and forget some of their troubles, forget some of their misery,” he said. “I never apologize for being a single heterosexual male, and I won’t ever. I love to dance. I love going to the salsa and the meringue clubs, the hip-hop clubs, just to have a great time. But I just want to see the culture exemplified correctly, to see realness.”
